Velasquez to paint new mural

Bluffton resident Oscar Velasquez will begin work on his newest mural, View of Yesterday, in the approaching weeks.

The scene will be reminiscent of the train depot that was once in Bluffton. Velasquez researched his newest mural by looking at old photos and talking with different people around town.

Velasquez has been arranging to begin work on another mural in Bluffton for about a year. With the uncertain future of his Groves Bears mural, in place since 1995, Velasquez decided now would be the right time to search out a new location for another.

Forever in Stitches owners, Rick and Ruth Grihalva, said that they would allow Velasquez to paint his new mural along the side of their Main Street building.

April is the approximate start time for the mural; it will take two to three months to complete. Velasquez will use outdoor acrylic paints to complete the mural, which will cover much of the brick wall.

The public is invited to stop and watch Velasquez as he works on the building in the coming warmer months.

Sponsorships for the mural are available in varying amounts. Please contact Velasquez at 419-358-0533 with inquiries.
