Editor,
I would like to know what the trustees of Richland Township and the zoning board has against my brother operating a small roll-off and recycling business. It is located at I-75 and US 30 and is zoned commercial B2. All that is needed is for them to grant a conditional use permit so he can operate his business. For some reason they want him to stop operating his business completely. This will add to filling landfills that much quicker and putting a driver on unemployment.
I understand that in 1966 there were over 500 landfills in Ohio, but today there are less than 50. Where will we put trash when our landfills are full? My brother can save about 60% of the trash going through his recycling business. The Health Dept. came out and checked the operation and encouraged him on the good job he was doing. Allen County has over 10% of unemployment and the Township Trustees seem to want to add 1 more person to the unemployment lines.
I feel recycling is important. The Bible talks about recycling in Mark 6:43 and 8:8. Jesus had his disciples collect all the trash/leftovers after the feeding of the 5,000. I believe God wants us to recycle and use our resources wisely. He wants us to work with our hands and work diligently. Why are the Richland Trustees and Zoning Board against my brother doing this? I’m curious what the people of Richland Township think. There is a meeting at the Township Building on March 9 at 7:30 pm where a person can give their input, or they can contact one of the Township Trustees or Zoning Board.
