Gene Edward Badertscher

Gene Edward Badertscher, 75, of Bluffton, died Tuesday, May 11, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. Mr. Badertscher was born November 11, 1934 to Albert and Sarah Hochstettler Badertscher in Hancock County. He married Nora Preto on May 18, 1957 and she survives.
 
Gene was a carpenter, butcher, millwright, and brick mason. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bluffton, and was a past member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Bluffton. He was a past member of the Bluffton Fire and EMS squads. He enjoyed helping people. He enjoyed spending time with family, a good joke, and coffee with his friends. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a 1952 graduate of Bluffton High School. The family would like to request that you assist a neighbor or friend in honor of Gene’s willingness to help others. They would also like to thank PSA Visiting Nurses of Ada for their generous help.
 
He is survived by his wife, Nora Badertscher, of Bluffton; daughter, Jean (Tom) Bernhoft, of McComb, Janis Badertscher, of Bluffton; son, Kurt (Kim) Badertscher, of Bluffton; grandsons, Dylan Badertscher, Tyler Ferris, and Jack Bernhoft; sister, Erma Augsburger, of Bluffton; brother, Maynard (Joyce) Badertscher.
 
He was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Mitchell; a brother, Lyle Badertscher.
 
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bluffton at 10:30 a.m. Father John Sites will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton.
 
Memorial contributions may be made to Bluffton Fire and EMS squad or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Clifton Diller

Clifton Diller, 96, of Bluffton died at 2:20 pm May 9, 2010 at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born in Richland Township on January 3, 1914 to Albert and Sarah Geiger Diller.
 
Clifton was a retired farmer. He was a member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He made several trips to Switzerland and the Holy Land. He was a 1932 graduate of Bluffton High School.
 
Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Ebenezer Mennonite Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Mennonite Church. Revs. Dick Potter and Charles Warren will officiate. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton.

Gertrude F. "Trudy" Koerner

Gertrude F. “Trudy” Koerner, age 87, of Bluffton, Ohio and formerly of Tiffin, died at 7:10 a.m., Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.

Trudy was born to the late Alonzo and Elizabeth (Rust) Cochran March 29,1923 in Tiffin.  On May 10, 1944 she married Carl Koerner in Springfield, Ohio and he died February 20, 2002.

Trudy is survived by a son, Alexander Koerner of Mt. Blanchard, Ohio; two daughters, Connie Koerner of Bluffton, and Teresa (Kevin) Scott of Tiffin; two grandchildren, Josh Steinmetz and Emily Krabach; two brothers, Jack David Cochran and “Bud” Eugene Cochran, both of Lakeview, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Joan Mumford.

Trudy was a homemaker.  She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of Tiffin Art Club.  She was a den mother for the Boy Scouts and was also involved in Girl Scouts.  She enjoyed camping, vacationing, travelling, crocheting, she loved nature and taking care of animals by taking in strays and doctoring them.  She enjoyed golf, having scored a hole-in-one.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 3 pm Monday, May 10, 2010 followed by the funeral service at 3 pm, officiated by  Rev. Proietti, at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, 419-447-3113.  Burial for Gertrude and Carl will take place immediately following at Greenlawn Cemetery, with military rites for Carl conducted by the United Veterans Council.
